Ancient and Modern hero

Is the definition of a Modern hero similar to that of a classical hero, or is it different? They may be similar in certain aspects, but they also have distinctions. An ancient or historical hero is referred to as a classical hero. A superhero, such as Superman, is an example of one. A contemporary hero is unselfish in a positive sense and puts others before themselves. A person who would devote their life to defend another is an example of one of these. Classical and Modern heroes share some characteristics, but they are also different.

Despite how unlike they appear, Classical and Modern heroes share certain striking parallels that are impossible to overlook. Both sorts are pretty courageous.

  1. You have drawn interesting distinctions between classic and contemporary heroes. Do we prize altruism more now? Homer's heroes thought dying but living on in legends was worthwhile. They fought for their people, defeating "monsters" , they were not expected to be role models so much perhaps?
